The first Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann was held in Mullingar in 1951, drawing just a few hundred attendees. Founded by traditional musicians and Gaelic culture advocates to preserve Irish traditions, it has since grown into the world's largest annual celebration of Irish music, language, and dance, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors.
